FAQ

Everything you need to know before your first class

Do I need lifting experience?

No. Beginners start with clear coaching, lighter loads, and a simple explanation of each station. Experienced lifters can go heavier and use the same structure to train more consistently.

What happens in a BUILT class?

Each class is 45 minutes. You check in, warm up, then move through planned strength stations covering hinge, squat, push, pull, bilateral, and unilateral movements. Most working sets target around 8 controlled reps with heavy weights, and your loads are tracked so the next session can be adjusted intelligently.

How do I know what weight to use?

BUILT uses in-class software to show your previous loads and guide your next weight. Coaches help you adjust based on form, readiness, and how the set feels that day.

How is BUILT different from other strength classes?

Many strength classes move too quickly, use lighter weights, or change exercises too randomly to build real progression. BUILT uses planned movement patterns, controlled reps, heavy weights, and a target of around 8 reps. Our software also has a sports science algorithm built in to ensure progressive overload, so the work is structured enough to build strength over time.

I already strength train regularly. Is this class for me?

Yes. Experienced lifters can use BUILT for structured, efficient, full-body strength work with tracked loading and clear progression. We recommend arriving up to 15 minutes early to use the warmup area, since experienced lifters may need more time to mobilize and feel truly primed to lift their heaviest.

Is this like CrossFit, HIIT, or bootcamp?

No. BUILT is not competitive conditioning, random circuits, or a class designed to max out your heart rate with high-impact movements. If you are used to cardio-heavy classes, it may feel slower at first, maybe even boring. But if your goal is to build muscle and benefit from having more muscle over time, this method is far more effective.

What does BUILT do to ensure the classes are not intimidating for beginners?

The room is intentionally coached, structured, and easy to follow. Beginners get clear station guidance, machine setup help, lighter starting weights, and enough explanation to understand what they are doing without being overwhelmed. You will know where to go, what to do, and how hard to work.

Who is BUILT for?

All ages, races, sexualities, gender identities, body types, training histories, and confidence levels are welcome. BUILT is especially designed for anyone who has felt out of place in a traditional gym.

What should I bring?

Wear training clothes you can move in and bring clean indoor training shoes. A water bottle is recommended; there is a filtered water fountain at every studio for refills. Towels will be provided at the studio.

Should I arrive early for my first class?

Yes. Please arrive 10 minutes early for your first class so we can introduce the space, explain the software, and help you feel settled before the session begins.

What if I am nervous about the machines?

Start with the Machine Form Intro: a 60-minute small-group session, capped at four people, focused on machine setup, safe ranges, tempo, and starting weights. If you join directly within seven days, the intro fee can be credited toward your first membership.

What if I want extra support?

Progress and Performance members who join directly for at least three months receive one 60-minute coaching session every month, worth £110, to work on form, new movements, assisted stretching, mobility, or progress review. Sessions are non-rollover.

How often should I come?

Most members will see the best balance of progress and recovery with two to three sessions per week, building up to three or four if appropriate. Always leave a rest day between BUILT sessions so your body can recover and adapt.

What are the benefits of building muscle?

Building muscle supports strength, bone density, metabolism, joint protection, balance, and everyday function. It can also help protect long-term health: research links muscle-strengthening activity with lower risk of premature death, and stronger muscles are associated with better independence and longevity as we age.

Will there be showers and proper changing space?

The goal for BUILT is a premium London studio experience, including thoughtful changing space and member amenities. Final facilities will depend on the launch site.
